Two ducks

Okay, technically this is two ducks, which feels like cheating, but we're counting it as one picture because that's what it is. One picture. Of two ducks. The one in front has a bright red beak and looks like it's posing. The one in back has water dripping from its beak and seems less committed to being photographed. They might be friends. They might be strangers who happened to be in the same pond at the same time. We'll never know, but that's okay. Some mysteries don't need solving.

This duck

This is a duck. It's standing on a rock near some water, which tracks. The lighting is actually pretty good on this one, and the water behind it is doing that nice reflective thing. Someone took this photo and then uploaded it to Wikipedia, which means they woke up that day and decided this was something they wanted to do. We respect that. We also found this image and decided to include it here, so really, who are any of us to judge anyone?

This one's doing something

Okay, this one is actually doing something. It's spreading its wings, which is more than we can say for most of the ducks on this list. It's unclear to us why it's doing this. Maybe it's stretching. Perhaps it just landed, or it wants us to look at it. If that's the case, it worked, because here we are, looking at it. We considered writing more about this duck but then realized we don't have anything else to say. It's a duck with its wings out. That's the whole situation.

Duck (flying)

This one's flying. It's actually a pretty good photo. The wings are fully spread, and there's motion blur in the background. Honestly, this might be too good for this list. We feel a little bad putting it here.

We should mention that it's the holidays, and we wanted to do something relevant, perhaps something upbeat, but we looked around and couldn't find anything that felt right given everything going on. So here's a duck instead. It's easier. The duck doesn't know what month it is. The duck is just flying somewhere. Good for it.

This one's not real

This is a person in a duck costume. We know. We found it while searching for duck pictures and thought it was funny, so we kept it. The costume is unsettling. The eyes are wrong. Everyone in the photo is smiling except the duck, who cannot smile because its face is frozen in whatever expression that is. We don't know what's happening here or when this was taken. We didn't look it up. We're almost done with this list.

Just the head

This is just the head of a duck. We don't know where the rest of it is. Presumably attached. The photo is cropped this way deliberately, which is a choice the photographer made, and now we all have to live with it. The duck looks calm. It doesn't know this is the last picture on the list. It doesn't know there's a list. We're done now. ■
